A sad update on a story we posted in July.
From the South Florida Sun-Sentinel:
Police arrested a Plantation man on Wednesday and accused him of killing his 20-year-old girlfriend while vacationing in the Keys seven months ago.
Dam Lopez, 26, was charged with negligent manslaughter and is being held at the Miami-Dade County Detention Center on $75,000 bail.
Police say Lopez and his girlfriend, Andrea Anzola Villafrade, of Deerfield Beach, were staying at a Marathon hotel with another couple on March 22.
They had spent a few hours swimming in the hotel’s pool and were back in their room around 10 p.m. getting ready to travel to Key West, according to police records.
Lopez had brought a handgun with him; state records show he has a concealed weapons permit.
Witnesses later told police Lopez picked up the gun and stood behind Villafrade as she did her hair.
“Damian, don’t play like that,” she said, according to the police reports.
A shot rang out. Villafrade fell into her boyfriend’s arms as blood flowed from beneath her left breast, witnesses told police.
